PRIVATE ART INSTRUCTION
by Tom Wudl
As a teacher, Tom Wudl guides every individual so that they can fulfill their creative aspirations.
“There has never been a shortage of art teachers, so one can reasonably ask, “What’s so different about Tom Wudl?” Simple, really: He has an uncanny ability to transform a perpetual “art student” into an actual practicing artist. What's his secret? He does this over time by first understanding who the individual artist is and then, with great sensitivity, slowly nudging them towards the realization of his/her potential. It's an amazing performance to watch and to date I've never experienced this with any other art teacher. If I had to define Wudl in a single word, it would be "catalytic".”

About Private Art Instruction at TWS
Two instruction modalities
IN STUDIO
Artists work at the studio once a week (or more).
Our 1700 sq ft space in Downtown Los Angeles accommodates 7 artists at a time, four days a week from Monday to Thursday.
Artists receive instruction from Tom in the morning and continue to work on their own until the end of the day.
Artists have a chance to do their artwork in the company of others and be part of our community
In Studio Artists get access to our monthly Zoom group lectures
REMOTE
Artists from all over the world can be part of the remote modality
Artists schedule weekly Facetime/Zoom appointments with Tom.
Each appointment is scheduled for a specific time during the day for 20-30 minutes which allows for the artists to ask questions or receive specific instructions for their artwork.
If artists have questions during the rest of the week they are encouraged to message Tom.
Remote Artists have access to our monthly Zoom group lectures
Artists of every experience level are welcome.
At Tom Wudl Studio, instruction is completely tailored to the individual.
Our priority is to address each artists’ unique creative process, as opposed to instructing as a group with formal levels of learning or evaluation.
There is no set curriculum. Artists work at their own pace, on their own projects whether they are paintings, sculpture or mixed media.
This ensures a rich environment where the group in-studio converses
with artists of every level while working in their individual artwork.
CREATIVE PHILOSOPHY
“Don’t make your Life more important than your Art. Don’t make your Art more important than your Life”, you will hear often as this encapsulates Tom’s approach as a whole.
For a glimpse into Tom's philosophy, here is an audio interview from early 2014 by Antrese Wood, a former student, for her Savvy Painter podcast (saavypainter.com). They discuss his approach to art making as well as his thoughts on the creative process.
